Head Of Environment, Health, And Safety at AMRC

Laura Staton has extensive work experience in health, safety, and environment roles. Laura is currently the Head of Environment, Health, and Safety at AMRC. Prior to that, they worked as an Environmental, Health, and Safety Leader at McLaren Group from September 2021 to April 2023. Laura also held the position of Head of Environment, Health, and Safety at Sheffield Refractories Limited from October 2020 to September 2021. Laura has also served as the Group HSE Manager, Health and Safety Manager - Foundry, and HSE Manager - Melt shop at Sheffield Forgemasters from 2016 to 2020. Before that, they worked as a health and safety manager at Sheffield Refractories Limited, where they successfully achieved OSHAS 18001:2007 status. Laura also worked as a health and safety manager at Intermet Refractories Limited and as a secondary science teacher at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.

Laura Staton started their education at Wickersley School and Sports College, where they studied Physics and took courses in Chemistry, Geography, and Biology. Laura then attended Sheffield Hallam University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree with a focus on Materials Engineering, Nuclear Physics, Cosmology, and theoretical physics.

After completing their undergraduate studies, Laura obtained a Master's degree (MSc) in Safety and risk management from the University of Strathclyde. Laura also earned a Postgraduate Diploma and a Postgraduate Certificate in Risk and Safety Management from the same institution.

In terms of additional certifications, Laura has obtained various qualifications. Laura is a Mental Health First Aider, certified by St John Ambulance, and has completed training in noise measurement and its effects, health effects of hazardous substances, measurement of hazardous substances, and basic principles of occupational hygiene. These certifications were provided by the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS). Laura also holds certifications in the management of confined spaces from Arco Professional Safety Services Ltd, IOSH for Executives and Directors from IOSH, Oxy-acetylene/propane gas usage from Proactive Gas Safety Ltd, and PUWER - machinery series from the Health and Safety Executive. Laura has also completed the PRINCE2® Foundation and Practitioner Certification Training offered by AXELOS Global Best Practice.

Additionally, Laura has obtained certifications in chemical spills first response from Empteezy, as well as supervisors and managers certificate in the operation of evaporative cooling systems from City & Guilds. Lastly, they have completed training in machinery and process isolation and immobilization from Pilz Automation Safety L.P.
