Stephen Gitau has a diverse work experience spanning many years. Stephen began their career as an Accounts Clerk at Africa Virtual University in 1999. In 2000, they joined KPMG East Africa as an Audit Senior, where they worked until 2004. From 2004 to 2011, they served as the Finance and Administration Manager at TNT EXpress Worldwide - Kenya. In 2011, they joined AMREF Flying Doctors as the CFO, a role they held until October 2019. Stephen Gitau then became the CEO of AMREF Flying Doctors in October 2019.

Stephen Gitau completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi, where they studied from 1997 to 2001. Following this, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree focused on Finance and Strategic Management at Strathmore University from 2008 to 2010.
