Charles Copley

Director of Data Science at Ancera

Charles Copley has worked in the field of data science for over 15 years. In 2005, they began their career as the Head of Project (C-BASS) and Project Engineer at SKA South Africa. In 2010, they moved to the University of Oxford where they served as the Technical Project Manager. In 2013, they returned to SKA South Africa as a Senior Systems Scientist. In 2016, they joined JUMO.WORLD as a Lead Data Scientist. In 2017, they were appointed as the Head of Data Science at Praekelt.org. In 2020, they became the Data Science Manager at Cedar, where they established and maintained a rapid experimentation framework. Currently, they are the Director of Data Science at Ancera.

Charles Copley has a long and varied educational history. Charles obtained a D.Phil (Ph.D) in Astrophysics from the University of Oxford, a Visiting Fellow in Astrophysics from Caltech, an M.Sc in Physics with Electronics from Rhodes University, a B.Sc Hons in Astrophysics and Space Science from the University of Cape Town, a B.Sc in Physics and Chemistry from Rhodes University, and a Matric (IEB) from Michaelhouse. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications, including The Economics of Health Care Delivery from the University of Pennsylvania in April 2020, Developing Data Products from The Johns Hopkins University in August 2015, Systems Engineering and Management from the INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL ON SYSTEMS ENGINEERING in March 2015, Machine Learning from Stanford University in December 2014, Social Networking in R - Networked Life from the University of Pennsylvania in October 2014, Data Scientist Toolbox from The Johns Hopkins University in September 2014, Getting and Cleaning Data from The Johns Hopkins University in September 2014, and R Programming from The Johns Hopkins University in September 2014.
