The Animal Welfare Data Center (AWDC) is a nonprofit organization based in Southern California. Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, we're developing a centralized, standardized database to track and analyze public data on the relationship between human and animal welfare in our society. Through data science and technology, we conduct research on human and animal welfare, creating data-driven tools for government agencies and organizations to improve processes and reform policies with a systemic approach.

Our Process:
Through the Public Records Act (PRA), we obtain data directly from government agencies we support—including public animal shelters, county departments, and city-appointed commissions.

We transform this public data into actionable insights that drive positive change in animal and human welfare policies, working closely with community stakeholders to shape our research objectives.

We share our research findings and data-driven recommendations with community stakeholders and agencies at all levels—local, state, and federal—to advance animal and human welfare in communities, developing tools such as data dashboards, insights analytics, predictive modeling for resource planning, data standardization, and process automation.

Beyond creating positive community change, we're committed to empowering individuals through data science education. We provide training and volunteer opportunities that develop skills in data management, governance, and analytics, helping community members build a strong foundation for entering the technology sector with confidence and hands-on experience.
