Gavin Smith

Gavin Smith is an accomplished academic with extensive experience in sociology, currently serving as the Head of the ANU School of Sociology at The Australian National University since March 2012. In this role, Gavin also contributes as an Associate Professor and previously held positions as a Senior Lecturer. Focused on the intersections of risk, policing, and penality, Gavin's research includes topics such as electronic monitoring, speed cameras, and the experiences of incarcerated women. Prior to this, Gavin worked as a Lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Sydney from July 2010 to March 2012 and as a Lecturer in Sociology and Criminology at City University London from September 2008 to June 2010.
