Lorana Bartels

Lorana Bartels is a highly accomplished academic in the field of criminology, currently serving as a Professor of Criminology and Criminology Program Leader at The Australian National University since May 2019. Bartels has held several significant positions, including Board Member at the Justice Reform Initiative since September 2021 and Deputy Director at POLIS: The ANU Centre for Social Policy Research from March 2024 to October 2024. Prior roles include Head of School at the School of Law and Justice and various academic positions at the University of Canberra from July 2011 to June 2018, as well as Senior Research Analyst at the Australian Institute of Criminology and Research Fellow at the Criminology Research Council from September 2007 to July 2011. Bartels holds an extensive educational background, including a Doctor of Philosophy in Law from the University of Tasmania and a Master of Laws in Criminal Justice from UNSW, among other degrees.
