Dr. Deb Mitchison would bring to ANZAED her expertise as both a Research Fellow and Clinical Psychologist. An ANZAED member since 2009, she has worked in both the public and private health sectors, on randomized controlled treatment trials for anorexia nervosa, and as a university lecturer and research fellow. In her research, Dr. Mitchison seeks to uncover the nature of disordered eating in sectors of the community that does not meet the historical stereotype (e.g., males, older, obese people) and bridge treatment gaps for these individuals. She has 29 publications, presents her work at national and international forums, serves on the Scientific Review Committee of the Academy for Eating Disorders and the Eating Disorder Steering Committee of the Western Sydney Local Health District. She has recently been accepted as a member of the Eating Disorder Research Society. Her current project is investigating risk factors for eating disorders in 10,000 adolescents.
