Mark Bateman

Mark Bateman is the Director of ESG & SRI Research at Aperio Group. Mark has over 25 years of experience in the responsible investing industry.

Bateman started their career as a Legislative Aide for Senator Mark O. Hatfield. Mark then moved on to become the VP of Research and Operations at IRRC (now MSCI). After 11 years at IRRC, Bateman left to start their own consultancy, Segue Point LLC.

While at Segue Point, Bateman also served as a Board Member for the Sustainable Investment Institute (Si2). In 2013, they founded ENSOGO Analytics in response to a question from a financial advisor about evaluating mutual funds on sustainability issues. ENSOGO Analytics provides proprietary ESG scoring and rating of mutual funds based on each fund's underlying holdings.

In 2020, Bateman joined Aperio Group as the Director of ESG & SRI Research.

Mark Bateman has a MA in Legislative Affairs from The George Washington University and a BA in Political Science from The Johns Hopkins University.

They are on a team with Austin Wilson - Head of Active Ownership & Associate ESG/SRI Investment Strategist, Hiep Dinh - Director of Operations, and Nicole Bellefeuille - Manager of Marketing Projects. Mark Bateman reports to Liz Michaels, Co-Head of Aperio, Chicago.
