Geoff Schmidt

CEO at Apollo GraphQL

Geoff Schmidt is the CEO of Apollo, a position they have held since October 2019. Prior to that, they were the CEO and Cofounder of Meteor Development Group from June 2011 to October 2019.

At Meteor, Geoff led the team that built one of the most popular open source projects in the world. Meteor was one of the top 10 most starred projects in GitHub, and when they launched Meteor 1.0, there were local user-organized Meteor meetups in 134 cities around the world on the same day!

Meteor's popularity came from its revolutionary new technology. It pioneered many technologies that are now commonplace in app development, from client side state management with a normalized cache, to reactive UI with optimistic updates, to isomorphic JavaScript package management. Eight years later, it's still the easiest and fastest way to build full-stack JavaScript apps.

Geoff was the original designer of Meteor architecture in 2011 with Matt DeBergalis and Nick Martin. Geoff also raised $30 million from top investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Matrix, and Trinity. Furthermore, they built a profitable business with 70%+ margins through the introduction of the Galaxy PaaS hosting platform for Meteor. In order to focus the team on Apollo, they sold the business to private equity (Tiny Capital) in 2019.

Geoff Schmidt attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and did not pursue any further education after that.

Ay Valade - Head, People Operations, Matt Debergalis - CTO, and John Siebert - CRO report to Geoff Schmidt.
