Apona Vineyards is a single-estate winery in Oregon's southern Willamette Valley, set on one hundred acres of woodland, farmland, and a working horse barn in Veneta.

The estate was founded by Andrew Head and Afton Towry and built slowly over six years. The name draws from Epona, the Celtic goddess of horses and harvest, a nod to the land's equine heritage, which continues today in the pasture beside the tasting room.

The vineyard spans thirty-two acres planted to seven varietals across eight blocks, farmed in the ancient Veneta loam and marine sedimentary soils that define this part of the valley. It is certified by LIVE and Salmon-Safe. Winemaking is led by Chris Graves, whose wines have earned 90+ scores from Wine Enthusiast, Wine Advocate, and Decanter.

The tasting room occupies the original blue horse barn, taken down to the studs and rebuilt as a twenty-thousand-square-foot facility housing the winery, tasting room, and event space. The hand-built sunburst doors at the entrance were custom designed by a local artisan. Outside, a patio with a pond, wood-fired oven, and sectioned seating extends the experience into the landscape.

Reservations are encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome. Tastings are led by the people who farm and make the wine.

The southern Willamette is quieter than the valley to the north, and the experience here reflects that. The drive from Portland is two hours. The estate is the destination.
