Robert Means has a long and varied work experience. From 1999 to 2004, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Instructor at Harvard Medical School. From 2004 to 2012, they worked as a Research Scientist, Associate Professor, Director of Graduate Recruitment for the Microbiology Program, and Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine. In 2012, they became an Adjunct Faculty at the University of New Haven. In 2015, they founded Spring Hill Design, a custom software solutions company. From 2016 to 2020, they worked as a Freelance Editor at Crimson Interactive and Enago. In 2020, they began working as a Technical Writer and Developer Liaison at Pinegrow. Finally, in 2022, they will become a Developer Relations Engineer at Apostrophe.

Robert Means attended Rochester Institute of Technology from 1987 to 1991, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology. Robert then attended Harvard Medical School from 1991 to 1999, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Virology.
