Noel Wan is a research scientist at Apple since August 2025, with a previous tenure as Head of Photonics at QuEra Computing Inc. from 2021 to August 2025, where efforts were focused on building, integrating, and deploying photonic chips for quantum computing. Prior to that, Noel served as a Photonics Engineer, establishing a photonics laboratory and R&D organization that centered on quantum computing, free-space optics, and integrated photonics. Noel earned a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2014 to 2020, with a dissertation on solid-state qubits and integrated photonics under the advisement of Dirk Englund. The doctoral research included the design and experimental demonstration of a 128-channel photonic chip integrated with solid-state qubits for quantum networks. Additional education includes a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Columbia University, completed in 2014.
