Oliver Bates

Oliver Bates is currently an Engineering Manager in Machine Learning at Apple, where they previously headed teams focusing on search infrastructure and object storage. They have built and led engineering teams within Apple and various early-stage startups, developing distributed systems and global-scale technologies. Oliver's past roles include Chief Technology Officer at Ponto, where they contributed to a fintech startup, and as a Bioengineering Research Assistant at The University of Auckland, where they designed a stereoscopic imaging system for medical applications. They are pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University while holding a BEng in Electrical Engineering from McGill University.
