Theodore Lao is an accomplished engineer with experience in research and development across various technical fields, including language acquisition, optical sensing, and signal integrity. At the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Theodore contributed to the Language Acquisition and Robotics Group by developing algorithms for real-time spoken word recognition and implementing a word spotting algorithm for humanoid robots. Additionally, Theodore worked as a course assistant in the Optical Remote Sensing Laboratory and optimized automation software for the Nano Sensors Research Group to enhance disease detection methods. During an internship at Molex, Theodore developed dielectric characterization procedures and programmed MATLAB scripts for statistical analysis, while also engaging in design and simulation of prototypes. Experience at Apple focused on motion sensing hardware technologies, and earlier work at Argonne National Laboratory involved creating a novel spectroscopy system for remote chemical detection. Theodore holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
