Wei Liu is a seasoned research scientist with extensive experience in machine learning and computer vision. Currently employed at Apple since February 2024 as a Research Scientist, Wei previously held the position of Head of Machine Learning Research at Nuro from September 2016 to February 2024, focusing on optimizing neural network architectures and various machine learning methodologies. Wei's background includes significant contributions to real-time object detection and segmentation, as well as advanced techniques in 3D processing during previous roles at Nuro and as an intern at Google. Wei earned a PhD in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, supported by the prestigious 2016 Google PhD Fellowship in Machine Perception. Further academic achievements include studies at Stony Brook University and Carnegie Mellon University, alongside foundational training at Nanjing University.
