Yu-Chen Shen

Yu-Chen Shen is an experienced optical sensing hardware engineer currently with Apple since April 2025. Prior to this role, Yu-Chen served as R&D Director for Device Architecture and Design at Lumileds from July 2017 to January 2025, leading cross-functional teams in the design of advanced microLED devices. Between January 2010 and February 2017, Yu-Chen worked at SunPower Corporation as Cell R&D Reliability Manager and Principal R&D Reliability Engineer, notably serving as the primary investigator for a significant grant from the DOE. Previous positions include PV Development at Skyline Solar and Senior Staff Scientist at Philips Lumileds Lighting, where research on LED efficiency under Yu-Chen's leadership contributed to well-cited publications. Yu-Chen began an academic career as a Post-doctoral Researcher in Physical Chemistry at the University of Oregon following a PhD from the University of Chicago and a BS from UCLA.
