John (Bon-Woong) Koo is currently a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Applied Materials, specializing in plasma, defect, ion beam, thin film, and etching technologies, with over 100 patents to their name. Previously, they served as an R&D Manager at Bumjin Institute of Material Research from 1988 to 1994, where they led a team focused on developing thin-film and coating equipment and processes, and they were the inventor of five Korean patents. John obtained a Bachelor and Master in Nuclear Engineering from Seoul National University, a Ph.D. in Plasma Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an MBA in Business Administration from Endicott College.
