Yu Zhang

Yu Zhang is a skilled professional in semiconductor and optical engineering, with a strong background in the design, fabrication, and testing of nanoscale optical systems. Currently, they serve as the Director of Etch Process at Applied Materials, where they focus on various etch processes for advanced devices. Previously, Yu worked as a Process Engineer at Lam Research, honing expertise in dry etch processes and critical applications for memory chips. Their early experience includes research roles at USTC Plasma Lab and Halas Nanophotonics Lab, where they contributed significantly to plasma simulation and nonlinear optical systems. Yu is pursuing a PhD in Physics with a focus on Optical and Nanoengineering at Rice University, alongside a Master’s degree in Computational and Plasma Physics from the University of Science and Technology of China.
