Alin Tomescu

Alin Tomescu is a seasoned expert in cryptography and computer science with extensive experience spanning over a decade. Currently serving as the Founding Team and Head of Cryptography at Aptos since February 2022, Alin previously worked as a Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Researcher at VMware, and as a Research Assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from August 2013 to January 2020. Alin's research focuses on cryptocurrencies, public-key distribution, and secure communication. Notable past roles include internships at VMware developing novel cryptocurrency designs, leadership in research and development at Private Machines Inc., and software development roles at Microsoft and Stony Brook University. Alin holds a Ph.D. and a Master's degree in Computer Science from MIT, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Stony Brook University.
