Michael Cunningham has a diverse work experience in the forestry industry. Michael recently retired in September 2021 and is currently working as a consultant. Prior to that, they held various positions at ArborGen Inc, including Vice President of Global Product Development and Director of Product Development. Michael was responsible for managing genetic improvement and field evaluation programs for pine and hardwood species. Michael also worked at International Paper as a Manager of Hardwood Genetics, focusing on genetic improvement of hardwood species and developing forestry programs in Poland and France. Earlier in their career, they worked at Union Camp Corporation as a Regeneration Group leader.
Michael Cunningham earned their Ph.D. in Forestry, Genetics, and Statistics from North Carolina State University, from 1982 to 1986. Prior to that, they obtained their M.S. in Forestry Genetics from Texas A&M University, from 1979 to 1981. Finally, they completed their B.S. in Forestry at Oklahoma State University, from 1975 to 1979.
