Varuna Bamunusinghe

Varuna Bamunusinghe has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Starting in 2006, Varuna worked as a Trainee Software Engineer (Internship) at Golden Key Software Solutions Ltd. In 2007, Varuna joined METATECHNO LANKA COMPANY (PRIVATE) LIMITED as a Trainee Software Engineer before becoming a Senior Software Engineer at Metatechno Inc. in 2008.

In 2013, Varuna took on the role of an iOS Consultant at Brink Media, where they designed and developed iOS applications from scratch. Varuna worked remotely from Sri Lanka and collaborated with UI designers to create user-friendly apps.

In 2015, Varuna co-founded Eniplex (Pvt) Ltd. and served as the CTO. They managed a team of developers and led the development of ReactJS/GraphQL web applications for high-end clients in Japan.

Varuna joined SelfDecode in 2019 and held two roles. As a Senior Software Engineer, Varuna developed a Single Sign-On authentication system and microservices based on the domain-driven design approach. In the role of Senior AI Engineer and Team Lead, Varuna worked on R&D Machine Learning models for Genomics and developed a Polygenic Risk Score calculation application.

In 2023, Varuna became a Visiting Lecturer at AMDT School of Creativity and a Lead AI Engineer at Arcadea Group.

Varuna Bamunusinghe's education history includes a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Northampton, obtained in 2024. Before that, in 2017, Varuna completed a Nanodegree in Artificial Intelligence from Udacity. From 2002 to 2007, Varuna pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Computer Science (Special) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. In 2001, Varuna obtained a Diploma in Computer System Design from the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) in Sri Lanka. Varuna's secondary education was completed at Royal College Colombo from 1992 to 2001, and primary education was completed at President's College, Homagama from 1988 to 1991.

In addition to these qualifications, Varuna has obtained several certifications, including AI for Healthcare from Udacity in 2021, Probabilistic Deep Learning with TensorFlow 2 from Coursera in 2021, Agile Development Specialization from Coursera in 2017, and Startup School Online Founder Track from Y Combinator in 2017. Further certifications include the Japanese Language Proficiency Test - Level 2 (Business Level) obtained in 2009 and the Fundamental Information Technology Engineer Examination (in Japanese Language) obtained in 2009 from the INFORMATION-TECHNOLOGY PROMOTION AGENCY, JAPAN.
