Cameron Sobie

Data Science Manager at Arch Systems

Cameron Sobie has a long history of work experience in data science, engineering, and research. In 2022, they began working as a Data Science Manager and Sr. Staff Data Scientist for Arch Systems. In this role, they onboarded into an entirely new engineering industry to become a domain expert, discover new opportunities for improvement through data science, and show their industrial value in a matter of months and within a remote organization. Cameron also created a portfolio of reusable analytics creating value across industrial production, quality, and machine utilization from the first day of customer connectivity, serving large electronics contract manufacturers and OEMs. In 2018, they began working as a Data Science Team Lead and Data Scientist for Siemens. In this role, they led a team of five research data scientists and developers to create trailblazing applications of data science, optimization, and machine learning in the engineering and electricity generation industries. Cameron also supported internal business units with in-house data science consultancy including improving operational data usage for condition monitoring, reducing product configuration times, and supporting hundreds of millions of euro in sales enablement. In 2016, they began working as a Research Engineer Advanced for Siemens PLM Software. In this role, they researched new applications of machine learning for industrial applications such as condition monitoring, anomaly detection, design insights, and improving optimization. From 2011 to 2016, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant and Research Assistant for the Georgia Institute of Technology and University of Victoria, respectively. In these roles, they developed high performance simulations in Fortran, determined the most accurate model for predicting irradiation hardening in steel for specific damage types, proposed and realized new modelling methods to include thermal effects on irradiation hardening, and modeled the effects of noise on quantum bits.

Cameron Sobie obtained their Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Engineering Physics from The University of British Columbia in 2011. Cameron then went on to earn their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2016.
