Marek Piatek has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of bioinformatics and genomics. Marek most recently served as the Executive Director of Science at Ardigen since January 2022, where they provided technical and strategic leadership for the development of bioinformatics services and products. Prior to this role, Marek held the position of Director of Bioinformatics at Ardigen from January 2018 to December 2021, where they represented the company's bioinformatics development and collaborated with partners to implement cutting-edge offerings.

Before joining Ardigen, Marek worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory from July 2016 to December 2017, where they developed and maintained bioinformatics analyses and workflows for next-generation sequencing platforms. Marek was also involved in genome assembly and annotation and utilized high-performance computing for multi-omics data analysis.

Marek co-founded Bio21Ge, Inc in November 2014 and served as a Co-founder until December 2017. In this role, they contributed their expertise in TALE and CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing and genome engineering, along with bioinformatics and genomics skills for project workflow development and analysis.

During their career, Marek also worked as an Epigenomics Bioinformatician at The Babraham Institute from October 2009 to November 2010. Here, they managed and analyzed data from next-generation sequencing pipelines and developed new tools for data visualization and analysis.

Marek started their career as a Research Assistant at the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Center and Institute of Oncology from April 2006 to June 2007, where they focused on screening for germline mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes associated with hereditary breast-ovarian cancer syndrome.

Marek's early experience as a Research Assistant at The University of Silesia from October 2005 to May 2007 involved laboratory research on ticks infected with Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease. Marek was responsible for developing a computational pipeline for automated analysis of mutation type and frequency.

Overall, Marek Piatek has demonstrated their expertise in bioinformatics, genomics, and data analysis throughout their various roles and has made significant contributions in the fields of gene editing, genome engineering, and cancer research.

Marek Piatek pursued their education in a chronological order. Marek started with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from The University of Huddersfield, which they completed in the years 2007-2008. Following this, they obtained a Master's degree in Applied Bioinformatics from Cranfield University in the years 2008-2009. Finally, Marek completed their highest level of education with a PhD in Bioinformatics from KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology), where they studied from 2011 to 2015.
