The Arkansas River Valley is among two dozen areas across the United States that have been chosen to participate in a US Department of Energy community engagement and research project, called Consent-Based Siting.

The goal of this project is to share information about the interim storage of commercial spent nuclear fuel and to listen to community members' thoughts and expectations if such a storage facility were to be proposed in their area.

But why Arkansas? Hosting an interim spent fuel storage facility within Arkansas’ borders would create over 200 quality jobs and ensure a steady stream of tax dollars for the community.

At the end of the day, the choice to site a facility is in local hands. And that is what Arkansas Nuclear Voice seeks to determine through this community engagement project.
