Stephen Thomas

Stephen Thomas has over 25 years of work experience in various roles related to environmental management, sustainability, and community relations. Stephen has worked with companies such as ArrowResources AG, eXPerennial, Afrique Gold, Teranga Gold Corporation, Spiecapag, Eramet, EnGlobe EMEA, Golder Associates, URS Corporation, and CH2M. Throughout their career, Stephen has focused on implementing environmental and social management systems, improving health and safety standards, developing sustainable development policies, and managing large-scale industrial asset projects. Stephen has extensive experience in the metals and minerals trading sector as well as in the mining industry in West Africa.

Stephen Thomas has a diverse education history. In 1983, they completed their International Baccalaureat (IB) at Kodaikanal International School, where they studied Physics, Chemistry, Math, and English Literature. Stephen then pursued a diploma in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at Kingston University from 1986 to 1988. Following that, from 1989 to 1991, they obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Resources Science and the Environment from Kingston University. In 2011, Stephen earned executive certificates in "Mini MBA" and Corporate Leadership from McGill University's Desautels Faculty of Management. Continuing their education, in 2012, they obtained a certification as a Lead EMS Auditor (ISO 14001) from Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). In 2013, they pursued a certificate program called One Planet Leaders (Business & Sustainability) at IMD. Stephen further expanded their knowledge by earning certifications. In 2006, they obtained the Australian Federal Construction Health & Safety White Card from WorkSafe Victoria. Additionally, in 2009, they became a Certified Environmental Professional (CEnvP) from the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ). Lastly, they completed an ISO 14001 Auditor certification from the ISO - International Organization for Standardization, although the specific details of its completion are not provided. More recently, in 2021, Stephen earned a Certificate in Business Sustainability Management from the University of Cambridge. In 2023, they pursued a part-time lecturer position in ESG Fundamentals at STSA Learning.
