The National Health Insurance (SeNaSa) arises with the promulgation of Law 87-01, which creates the Dominican Social Security System. This Law establishes that SeNaSa is the autonomous and decentralized public institution responsible for the management of health risks of subsidized, contributory and contributory-subsidized members of the public sector and contributory members of the private sector who voluntarily choose it.
