Art From the Streets (AFTS) uplifts people experiencing homelessness through the creation of art—transforming artistic expression into a source of dignity, community, and economic opportunity.
Create Art. Create Dignity. Create Change.
Founded in 1990, Art From the Streets is an Austin, Texas-based nonprofit that provides a safe, welcoming, and encouraging creative environment where artists experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity can create, connect, and thrive. We believe that every person has a story, every person has value, and every person deserves the opportunity to be recognized for their talents and contributions.
Through free studio sessions, outreach programming, workshops, artist residencies, and public exhibitions, AFTS provides artists with the resources, support, and community needed to pursue their creative expression. Our programs offer more than access to art supplies—they provide connection, confidence, purpose, and a place where artists are known, respected, and celebrated.
The artwork created by our artists is shared with the community through exhibitions, gallery partnerships, events, and our Annual Show and Sale. Art From the Streets is committed to ensuring artists benefit directly from their creativity—95% of all in-studio artwork sales go directly to the artist, creating meaningful economic opportunity while honoring the value of their work.
For more than 35 years, Art From the Streets has built a community where art breaks down barriers, challenges perceptions, and creates opportunities. Our artists are not defined by their circumstances; they are painters, storytellers, creators, and members of a vibrant artistic community.
Supported by dedicated volunteers, donors, community partners, and arts advocates, Art From the Streets continues to expand access to creative opportunities while sharing the powerful stories and talents of artists throughout Austin and beyond.
Create Art. Create Dignity. Create Change.
