Fiona Hughes

Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Fiona Hughes is a highly accomplished Principal Geotechnical Engineer at Arup, with a progressive career that includes roles as Senior Geotechnical Engineer, Geotechnical Engineer, and Graduate Geotechnical Engineer since September 2019. Prior experience includes serving as a Teaching Assistant at Queens' College, Cambridge, where supervision of first-year undergraduate engineering students and leading seminars took place from January 2016 to August 2018. Fiona contributed to the Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team (EEFIT) during a reconnaissance mission in Ecuador following the 2016 Muisne Earthquake, presenting findings to the wider community. As a former member of the British Cross Country Ski Team from 2007 to 2015, Fiona represented Great Britain at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering and an MEng in Civil Structural and Environmental Engineering from the University of Cambridge.
