Research Manager

Ian Tan is a heritage storyteller with extensive experience in research and editorial roles within the fields of archaeology, cultural heritage, and architectural conservation. Currently serving as a Research Manager at Arup since February 2024, Ian focuses on transforming ideas into research initiatives for East Asia. As Managing Editor of the SPAFA Journal, Ian oversees the publication of research in Southeast Asian cultural heritage. Previous positions include Executive Editor at the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Journal and founding Community and Conservation Specialist of Forward Heritage, a consultancy dedicated to preserving historical contexts. Ian's academic credentials include a PhD in Architecture from The University of Hong Kong and multiple degrees in museum studies and architectural conservation from renowned institutions.
