John Hand is an Associate Principal at Arup, serving as the Houston Office Leader and Americas South Region Structural Leader since July 2008. With leadership over approximately 100 multidisciplinary staff members, John is dedicated to providing structural technical excellence and fostering innovation across diverse markets including Property, Aviation, Healthcare, and Arts and Culture. Previously, John was the Texas Structural Practice Leader, where the establishment of the Texas structural practice was pioneered. Notable achievements include leading significant projects such as Arup’s first mass timber project in the Americas. Additionally, John has experience in academia as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Texas at Austin and has a strong educational background with multiple degrees from the same institution, including a Master's in Architectural Engineering and Bachelor's degrees in both Philosophy and Architectural Studies.
