Heather Nelson

Medical Director at ARUP Laboratories

Heather Nelson, PhD, DABCC has vast experience in the field of medical research and laboratory work. Heather started their career as a Laboratory Stockroom Work Study at Elmira College, where they prepared solutions for Chemistry labs and maintained bio-hazard reagents. Heather later served as a Physics Tutor, assisting students with assignments and test preparation. During their senior year, they worked as an Undergraduate Researcher on solid phase synthesis projects. Moving on, they continued their academic journey at SUNY Upstate Medical University as a PHD Candidate. At Vanderbilt University Medical Center, they served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, contributing to the development of a new imaging platform for measuring intracellular signaling events. Currently, they hold the position of Clinical Chemistry Fellow at ARUP Laboratories, actively involved in research, teaching, and quality control projects as Acting Medical Director for the Automated Endocrinology laboratory.

Heather Nelson, PhD, DABCC completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology and Chemistry at Elmira College from 2008 to 2012. Heather then went on to earn their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Cell and Developmental Biology from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University from 2012 to 2018.
