James D. Hess is global supply chain manager of audiovisual (AV) and information technology (IT) hardware for Google LLC, where he has worked for eight years. He currently is responsible for the world’s largest fleet of AV and collaborative IT assets, composed of 20,000 connected locations in more than 200 countries. In addition, he manages the production and delivery of AV assemblies, the life cycle entry of proprietary technologies and fleet sustainment to retirement. Prior to his tenure at Google, he served in the United States Army for more than 20 years, climbing to the rank of colonel: director of operational sustainment. Hess holds a bachelor’s degree in history and communications from the University of Toledo, a master’s degree in logistics management from the Florida Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in military studies from the United States Marine Corps University, and an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He also is a certified advanced project manager.
