Ashington, the hometown of Sir Bobby and Jack Charlton, Jackie Milburn and Jimmy Adamson, all of whom have been honored as Footballers of the Year, holds a special place in the annals of English football.

This Northumberland town has been integral to the beautiful game's rich tapestry, with Ashington AFC standing as a testament to the town’s footballing heritage.

Founded in 1883, the club has weathered the ebbs and flows of football fortunes. From their historic tenure in the Football League Third Division North in the 1920s to overcoming financial hardships later on, Ashington AFC embodies the enduring spirit of the community. This resilience was on full display when, in 2023, the team celebrated a monumental promotion to the Northern Premier League—their first in over half a century. Ashington’s commitment to local talent and the game has not only produced celebrated athletes but has also fortified the town’s identity, making it synonymous with passion, perseverance, and the love of football.
