Ian is the head of our class actions practice, and is prominent in major commercial and financial services disputes and enforcement matters. He has acted on some of the country's most complex and high-profile matters, and regularly writes and presents on class actions, regulatory enforcement and corporate crime.
Ian is known for being incisive, commercial, pragmatic and easy to work with. He is recognised as a leading lawyer in Litigation by Best Lawyers Australia. He is recognised in dispute resolution, and as a leading individual in class actions, by Asia Pacific Legal 500 which notes that he "not only possesses exceptional legal skills, but also shows boundless energy and enthusiasm in running a case," is "thorough and efficient", and "is an excellent communicator, who is committed to his clients and a pleasure to deal with".
Ian's work includes acting for Woolworths in the employee underpayment class action, KPMG in the Allco Finance Group shareholder class action, RBS in the Oasis investor class action and the Lane Cove Tunnel claim, and Macquarie in various proceedings arising out of the collapse of the van Eyk Blueprint funds. He acted for ANZ on the banking and financial services royal commission, and has acted on a range of regulatory enforcement matters for major financial institutions, including criminal prosecutions, civil penalty proceedings, license cancellation / suspension hearings and appeals, banning proceedings, and markets disciplinary panel proceedings.
