James Comber leads the Hong Kong dispute resolution practice.
James' practice is dedicated to advising clients on complex regulatory, financial and commercial disputes.
He has particular expertise in contentious regulatory matters and has acted for major financial institutions, asset managers and brokerages in investigations conducted by the Securities and Futures Commission, Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police.
James also acts for clients in high-value commercial disputes, both in litigation before the Hong Kong courts and in arbitral proceedings throughout Asia. He has a depth of experience in managing disputes across a wide range of industries, including financial services mis-selling and derivatives disputes, shareholder and joint venture disputes, complex contractual claims and tax disputes.
James has been ranked in Chambers Asia Pacific for a number of years for both dispute resolution and financial services contentious regulatory. In Chambers Asia Pacific 2020 edition, James was recognized for his "notable expertise in contentious regulatory matters, investigations and mis-selling claims" and as being "adept at representing clients in shareholder and joint venture disputes". In its 2019 edition, James was described as being "very practical and commercial, and a pleasure to deal with", "good at responding and giving very practical advice" and that "he is experienced, committed and cares about his clients".
