The Asia Science Mission (ASM) is a mission-oriented regional science platform designed to accelerate sustainability transformation across Asia by converting fragmented knowledge into coordinated action, learning, and investment-ready pathways.

Asia sits at the centre of global sustainability risk, where climate extremes, water insecurity, food system stress, biodiversity loss, and social vulnerability intersect across shared socio-ecological systems. Despite world-class science and policy activity, progress remains uneven due to fragmentation, weak science–policy–finance integration, and persistent pre-investment gaps.

ASM responds to this challenge by operating as catalytic science: reducing uncertainty where systems are stuck, enabling early-stage learning, and strengthening decision-making before large-scale policy or financial commitments are made.

What makes ASM different:
• Mission-oriented, not project-based—organised around shared socio-ecological challenges
• Learning-led science embedded in real-world decisions, implementation, and feedback loops
• Catalytic by design—addressing the “missing middle” between research and investment
• Regional and comparative—enabling cross-country learning across Asia’s diverse contexts

How ASM works:
ASM operates through an integrated mission architecture that includes Mission Labs (place-based demonstration projects), structured learning and diagnostics to manage trade-offs and uncertainty, regional knowledge synthesis to convert local experience into transferable insight, and science–policy–finance dialogue to strengthen investment readiness and scaling pathways.

Rather than delivering projects, ASM enables missions that learn, adapt, and scale—supporting sustainability transformation in Asia beyond 2030.
