Jorge E. Gonzalez is a distinguished academic currently serving as the SUNY Empire Innovation Professor at the University at Albany, SUNY, since June 2022, recognized for excellence in academic research within the NY State University System. Gonzalez is the Founding Editor of the ASME Journal of Engineering of Sustainable Buildings and Cities and held the title of Presidential Professor at The City College of New York from May 2008 to August 2023, reflecting a commitment to superior service, education, and research. As a NOAA CREST Professor and team leader of the Urban Coastal Modeling Research Group, Gonzalez's research focuses on the interplay between natural environments and human dimensions in coastal-urban settings, particularly in relation to climate predictions and energy sustainability. With an extensive academic background that includes professorships at Santa Clara University and the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, Gonzalez holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, along with multiple degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.
