Emily then joined The Huffington Post as an Associate Polling Editor from 2010 to 2012, before being promoted to the role of Polling Director until 2014. Emily then moved to the Associated Press, where they worked as a News Survey Specialist from 2014 to 2016 and later became the Polling Editor until 2019. In 2019, they took on the role of Director of Public Opinion Research at The Associated Press.
Emily Swanson completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2005 to 2009.
