Josh Hoffner is the U.S. News Director at The Associated Press, a position held since July 2000, overseeing comprehensive news coverage across all 50 states in various formats including text, photos, and video. Hoffner has also served as a news editor for national beats, successfully managing reporting teams on critical issues such as COVID-19 and immigration, with the latter earning a Pulitzer Prize nomination and an RFK Journalism Award. Prior roles include Southwest News Editor, where oversight of breaking news spanned several states, and Deputy West Editor, where management responsibilities included directing a regional editing desk in Phoenix. Hoffner's earlier experience at The Associated Press includes his tenure as a news editor focusing on New York City coverage and as a national desk editor. Hoffner began the journalism career as a writer and editor in the Bismarck bureau of The Associated Press and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from South Dakota State University.
