Scott Smith

Venezuela Correspondent

Scott Smith is an experienced journalist currently serving as the Venezuela Correspondent for The Associated Press since January 2014, where responsibilities include filing daily news stories and producing in-depth investigative features on Venezuela's socio-economic challenges. Prior to this role, Scott contributed to the AP's California report, covering significant events such as the state's drought and high-profile crime stories. Scott has also held roles as a News Reporter at The Record in Stockton, where investigative reporting led to the resolution of cold cases involving a serial killer, and as a reporter for Bay Area News Group and Turlock Journal. Earlier experience includes serving as Country Director for Internews Network, advocating for media freedom in Uzbekistan, and volunteering with the Peace Corps, teaching English in Uzbekistan. Scott holds an MA in English from California State University, Chico, and an AA in General Education from San Joaquin Delta College.
