Ground Engineering Lead at ASTERRA

Jonathan Lynch has worked in the engineering and geology field since 1997. Jonathan began their career as a Project Geologist for Bachy Soletanche Group Limited in Hong Kong. Jonathan then moved to Halcrow as a Geotechnical Engineer before joining TARMAC QUARRY PRODUCTS LIMITED in 1999 as a Geotechnical Engineer, where they were responsible for quarry waste tip and lagoon inspections, soil slope and rock face inspections, and implementation of rock face inspections for Quarry Regulations for TARMAC UK wide. In 2000, they joined URS Corporation, An AECOM Company, as a Senior Engineering Geologist, where they managed and performed Geotechnical and Environmental activities, technical output and reporting from the URS Edinburgh office. Jonathan then moved to ERM: Environmental Resources Management in 2005 as an Environmental Project Manager. In 2008, they joined Moore Spence Jones as a Principal Engineering Geologist, where they handled multi-disciplinary projects in Oil and Gas, Civil, Waste Management and environmental engineering projects. In 2010, they started their own company, Lynch Associates Ltd, as an Independant Engineering Geologist, specialising in desk studies and ground investigations, Geotechnical and Geo-Environmental Reporting. In 2011, they joined Fluor Corporation as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for Fluor on the Rio Tinto Simandou mine railway project in Guinea, West Africa. Jonathan then moved to KPJV Limited in 2013, where they worked as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, supervising all site geotechnical investigations and required reporting for structures, roads and pipelines, ensuring technical quality for end users. Jonathan is currently working as a Ground Engineering Lead for ASTERRA since 2021.

Jonathan Lynch has a comprehensive educational background. Jonathan attended Caldew School from 1983 to 1989, followed by Kingston University where they obtained their BSc in Earth Science from 1989 to 1992. Jonathan then furthered their studies at Newcastle University, where they obtained their MSc in Engineering Geology from 2018 to 2022. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications, including Chartered Geologist from the Geological Society of London in 2001, Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) - Professional from Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) in 2020, and Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) from CITB in 2020.
