Edward Keyes is an experienced engineer specializing in embedded systems and laser communication technologies. Currently serving as a Laser Communication System Engineer at Aalyria since February 2024, Edward focuses on advancing long-distance laser communications. As Chief Engineer at Stardrive Labs, Edward consults on embedded systems and smart-device projects. In addition, Edward is the primary firmware engineer for Hall-effect thrusters at Astra, with several systems currently operational in orbit. Previous roles include System Engineer at Hedron, Technical Consultant at LTA Research and Exploration and Loon, and Senior Staff Software Engineer at Google, where involvement in Project Loon and other pioneering projects took place. Edward holds a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from Vanderbilt University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
