Bernard Smit

Bernard Smit is a seasoned engineering professional with extensive experience in avionics and power systems. Currently serving as the Director of Engineering for Avionics and Power at Astranis Space Technologies since May 2019, Bernard previously held roles at Planet, including Lead of Electrical Engineering and Senior Electrical Engineer from August 2017 to May 2019. Prior to that, Bernard was with Nuvation Engineering for over a decade, progressing from Staff Hardware Engineer to Principal Engineer. Early career highlights include a brief tenure as a Hardware Engineer at Nuvation and a Coop Student position at the National Research Council Canada. Bernard holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Engineering Science with a focus on Electronics and Physics from Simon Fraser University, completed in 2005.
