Mathew Leese

Mathew Leese is a Patent Director at AstraZeneca, having previously held roles as a Patent Attorney and Senior Patent Attorney within the company from 2017 to 2020. Before joining AstraZeneca, Mathew worked as an Associate Attorney at Avidity IP from 2011 to 2016, specializing in pharmaceutical and biotech patent matters. Mathew's early career included a Senior Research Fellow position at the University of Bath, where they led a medicinal chemistry team focused on developing cancer treatments, and a Project Leader role at Ipsen, where they contributed to significant research in medicinal chemistry. Mathew is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Organic Synthesis at Cardiff University and holds a First Class BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham.
