Sam Staniland

Sam Staniland is a Senior Research Chemist at AstraZeneca, specializing in High Throughput Experimentation and Biocatalysis since June 2021. Previous experience includes a tenure at Johnson Matthey from October 2015 to June 2021, where roles included Senior Research Chemist and Senior Research Scientist, focusing on the implementation of advanced catalytic technologies in synthetic routes involving both biocatalysis and chemocatalysis. Additionally, Sam worked as a Biocatalysis Researcher and undertook a PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Manchester from 2011 to 2015, under the supervision of Professors Jonathan Clayden and others. Early career experience includes an Industrial Trainee position at Pfizer, contributing to synthetic organic chemistry within a Medicinal Chemistry team. Sam obtained a Master’s Degree in Chemistry with Industrial Experience from the University of Manchester from 2007 to 2011.
