Violeta Serra

Violeta Serra, PhD, is the Director of Translational Medicine at AstraZeneca and a visiting scientist at the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO). Violeta completed a PhD in Biological and Biomedical Sciences at Newcastle University in 2001 and began a postdoctoral fellowship at Charité, Berlin, where they researched breast cancer chemoresistance. Violeta has held various roles within VHIO since 2006, investigating the mechanisms of action and resistance to targeted therapies in breast cancer. Their work focuses on developing predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers for tumors with DNA damage repair deficiencies, and they are also an active member of the American Association of Cancer Research and serve on editorial boards for prominent cancer research publications.
