Rusty Powell

Rusty Powell holds extensive experience in the aerospace and engineering sectors, currently serving as VP of Space Integration at Astrion since November 2024. Prior to this role, Rusty was Vice President of Engineering at Axient, where responsibilities included leading space development and integration efforts. Rusty has also contributed to academia as an adjunct faculty member at Colorado Christian University, teaching various engineering courses. Former positions include Executive Director at Millennium Engineering and Integration, and significant roles at the US Air Force Academy and the Office of the Secretary of Defense, where strategic oversight of launch programs was a key responsibility. Rusty earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and a Master’s in Aeronautical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, building a strong educational foundation for a prolific career in engineering and academia.
