Joe Callingham

Head of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Science Group

Joe Callingham is a Dutch-Australian radio astronomer currently serving as Head of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Science Group at ASTRON and as an Associate Professor at the University of Amsterdam. They manage a team of approximately 15 astronomers and play a vital role in shaping the long-term scientific strategy for the institute. Joe specializes in the study of stars and exoplanets at radio wavelengths, focusing on understanding the generation of magnetic fields on these celestial bodies. They previously held positions as a Veni Fellow and adjunct Assistant Professor at Leiden University, and completed their PhD in astrophysics at The University of Sydney in 2017.
