Athena Research Center is the only research center in Greece dedicated to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Digital Sciences, serving as a national hub for digital research and innovation. Its vision is to achieve international excellence in research, with a strong emphasis on innovation and the transfer of technology to the economy and society. Through the development of innovative technologies and solutions, Athena contributes to addressing national and international digital challenges, generating impact across industry and society. It operates facilities in Athens, Patras and Xanthi, with additional presence in Chania, Tripoli and Mytilene. 

With more than 35 years of history, Athena operates as a Legal Private Law Entity and has evolved into one of the country’s leading pillars of research, digital innovation and technological development.

Athena comprises 4 Institutes: 
- Institute for Language and Speech Processing (Athens, with a branch in Xanthi)
- Industrial Systems Institute (Patras) 
- Information Management Systems Institute (Athens) 
- Robotics Institute (Athens) 

and

- Corallia Unit – Development and support of innovation clusters and entrepreneurial ecosystems (Athens) 
- Space Programs Unit (Athens)
- Environmental and Networking Technologies and Applications Unit (Xanthi)
- Pharma Informatics Unit (Athens)
- Sustainable Development Unit (Athens)
- Archimedes Unit – Research in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Algorithms (Athens)
- Innovation Unit for Women (Athens)

Athena also established and hosts Greece’s first Center of Excellence in Robotics: HERON - Hellenic Robotics Center of Excellence.
