Michael Koller has a diverse work experience spanning multiple risk-related roles in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Michael began their career in 1993, where they served as the Chief Risk Officer at the European Insurance and Reinsurance Federation for a brief period. Michael then joined Swiss Life, where they played a crucial role in setting up the risk function from scratch following the 2001 financial crisis. Koller was also responsible for establishing the asset-liability management (ALM) and product management departments at Swiss Life.

In 2005, Koller joined the Swiss Reinsurance Company as the Chief Regulatory Officer. Michael then moved to Partner Re as the Chief Life Actuary in 2007 before joining Aviva as the Chief Risk Officer (CRO). At Aviva, Koller oversaw the risk function in Aviva Europe across 12 countries, with a particular focus on restructuring and improving the risk function in preparation for Solvency II.

From 2011 to 2021, Koller worked at Prudential Assurance as the Group Risk Director, where they had diverse responsibilities encompassing financial and credit risk, insurance risk, mergers and acquisitions, model risk, and risk deep dives. Michael actively participated in strategically important projects and represented Group Risk in all M&A activities of the company.

Most recently, in 2021, Koller joined MS Amlin as the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) before transitioning to their current role as the Chief Risk Officer at Athora in 2023.

Michael Koller has an extensive education history in the field of mathematics. Michael obtained their first PhD in Mathematics from ETH Zürich, from 1985 to 1989. Michael continued their education at ETH Zürich and earned a second PhD in Mathematics from 1989 to 1993. Following their academic achievements, they pursued a career in teaching and research at ETH Zürich, where they became a professor in Mathematics, Insurance Mathematics, and Risk Management in 1995. In addition to their academic qualifications, Koller also gained certification as a Full Member (certified actuary) from the Swiss Association of Actuaries, though the specific dates are not provided.
